Depression & Wt Loss

Lisa had depression and weighed more than 250 lbs when she started our program. Within several months, she went down to ~180 lbs. But then due to her job and other issues, she became pretty depressed. What's worse is that she instead of seeking more help, she withdrew. She missed appointments. When we saw her again, she gained quite some of her weight back. Since restarted our program, she has been feeling well and losing weight. We advsed her over and over again not to miss her appointments, esp. when she feels depressed.

Depression can really make people gain weight. When you are depressed, you need medical help the most. But unfortunately, due to the nature of depression, many patients become inactive and withdraw from the outside world. Often they will eat more, and eat unhealthy. When they come out of depression, they seek help to lose weight. Then when depression strikes again, the cycle repeats. It is a challenge for patients and for us to identify these patients and offer help when they need it the most. So if you think you tend to get depressed and withdraw from outside world, plese inform us. We'll make a special effort to reach you and to help you.
